Moldova has not become closer to the European Union over the past year, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the deputy of the Gagauz autonomy Viktor Petrov.
According to him, there was a distance from him. The country can remain in this state for as long as it wants. Petrov called the decision on Moldova’s candidacy wrong, first of all, against Moscow, since European integration is part of the anti-Russian web of Western countries.
As the people’s deputy noted, the distance of Chisinau from the EU is due to complete inconsistency with the declarations on European norms and rules. We are talking about both the level of well-being of citizens and full-fledged public administration. The authorities put pressure on political opponents, persecute opposition politicians, infringe on the rights of residents of Gagauzia and Transnistria.
On March 3, 2022, Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed an application for the republic’s accession to the European Union. She insisted on speeding up the process. On June 23, the Heads of State and Government of the EU approved granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of candidates for membership. It was stated that it was necessary to carry out reforms and alter local legislation to EU standards.
