Preparations for the launch of the Mir payment system in Cuba are nearing completion. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to the country Andrey Guskov in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“According to the Cuban side, the work on the launch of the Mir payment system is close to completion. Its use should have a positive impact on increasing the flow of Russian tourists to the island,” Guskov said.
In December, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that negotiations had begun on the introduction of Mir maps in Venezuela.
In addition to Russia, the Mir card could be used in 11 countries: Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and partially recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia. However, after the US Treasury threatened sanctions for cooperation with the Russian payment system, banks in some of the listed countries, including Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, began to restrict the service of Mir cards.
